The Music Ministry

The music ministry at The First Baptist Church of Ahoskie holds something for almost every age. We have both choral and instrumental ensembles and we have choirs for our preschoolers, children, youth, adults, and senior adults. At times, we also enjoy intergenerational ensemble experiences. There is a place for everyone, and we encourage reaching out through song.

Vocal Ensembles

Visitation Singers
Meets Thursdays from 11:00-11:45am
This is an open group for any and everyone who will come to make visits to area shut-ins, singing hymns as we go.  We have a delightful time ministering through song.

Youth Chancel Choir
Rehearses Sundays 6:00-7:00pm
Youth Chancel Choir (grades 7-12) enjoys rehearsing standard Two-part, SAB, or SATB anthems and preparing to sing for worship services once each month during the academic year.

Music Friends
Meet Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm
Music Friends is for our preschool and kindergarten children, ages 3-6. Suzanne Newbern leads this time of music exploration, singing, movement, and just plain fun!

Children Choristers
Meet Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm
This choir is for our children in grades 1-6. Our rehearsals include vocal warm-ups, learning anthems and hymns, fun songs and activities, Orff instruments, and ringing choir chimes. On 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, the hour is split between choir and the Spark missions curriculum. Children Choristers sing for worship services once each month during the academic year. Kathy Hulin and Anita Thompson co-direct this group.

Sanctuary Choir
Rehearses Wednesdays 7:00-8:00pm
This is the primary worship choir that sings regularly for morning worship services. They sing a variety of anthem repertoire and enjoy preparing special musical services during Advent and Holy Week. Membership is always open.

Vocal Ensemble
Rehearses Wednesdays 8:00-9:00pm
This is a select ensemble that sings once or twice a month for worship services. They enjoy a cappella repertoire and music from a variety of genres.

Instrumental Ensembles

Resounding Brass
Rehearses Sundays 4:30-5:00pm
This ensemble meets periodically throughout the year to prepare for particular services. Currently we consist of two trumpets and a French horn and are always open to new members with some playing experience.

Chancel Bells
Rehearses Sundays 5:00-5:45pm
This bell choir is an intergenerational group composed of youth and adults. These ringers work on selections to ring for worship periodically throughout the academic year.

Sanctuary Bells
Rehearses Mondays 5:30-6:30pm
The Sanctuary Bells enjoy ringing 3-4 octave repertoire for worship services, usually once a month during the September through May choir season.
